Smoke Alarms
At DFI we specialize in interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms on the Sunshine Coast. These units are hardwired into your main electrical circuit and guarantee the best smoke alarm detection available. This means that when one alarm goes off they all do it in unison. The photoelectric smoke detectors we install also contain a backup battery with a 10-year lifespan. These new units are superior at detecting smoke compared to the now outdated ionized ones. Inside the detectors is an LED light. If any smoke enters the unit’s chamber it will disturb the path of the light and set the alarm off. They have the ability to recognize smouldering fires, which can lead to an earlier chance of preventing a full-blown house fire. Because we interconnect the smoke detectors they will all go off in each of the rooms they have been installed.

Queensland smoke alarm regulations
The latest QLD fire safety regulations state that all landlords must have interconnected smoke alarms for their tenants by January the 1st 2022. This will be extended to include all homes by 2027. Any existing smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old must be replaced with photoelectric ones. These must also meet the Australian standard. If a tested alarm doesn’t respond it must be replaced immediately. Finally, if you already have hardwired alarms they must be replaced with photoelectric ones.
